The ABC's of Disney movies, as told by me (D/E)

I'm feeling motivated today so I'm going to do TWO letters!

D -

Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990)


I used to watch this movie all the time, too. This movie used to be all the rage when I was younger, but it was beat out eventually by all the new Disney movies coming out (I'm not complaining though! :)) It's chock full of adventure, fantasy, and humor so who wouldn't enjoy it? Some favorite characters in this movie include Scrooge McDuck, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie as well as some fun, new characters.

Fun Facts:

This was the first Disney animated movie to be spun off from a TV series.

When the triplets (Huey, Dewey, and Louie) and Webby are breaking into the Bin to get back the lamp, the code they use to enter in the "back door" is CASH.

Webby is based on Daisy Duck's nieces April, May, and June.

Scrooge McDuck: Launchpad, is this a stunt you learned in flight school?
Launchpad: Flight school?
Scrooge McDuck: You mean you *never* took flying lessons?
Launchpad: [lunkishly] Well, I took a crash course.

Huey: Wait a second. What about our wishes?
Genie: Wishes? Do I look like a birthday cake?
Huey: Oh, come on! You can't fool us! A genie is supposed to grant wishes.
Webby: That's three wishes for every master.

Huey: You read the whole encyclopedia?
Genie: Cover to cover to cover... what's this? Baseball? Bowling ball? Cinderella's ball?
Huey: No, it's a globe of the Earth.
Genie: Get back. You mean the Earth isn't flat? I must have missed that part.
Louie: Boy, he HAS been in that lamp for a long time!

The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

This is one of my favorite Disney movies ever. It is absolutely hilarious and the characters are so loveable, even the one that is scary beyond all reason :) There really is never a dull moment in the entire movie; David Spade (Emperor Kuzco) makes sure of it!

Fun Facts:

There are two inside jokes. When Yzma pours the "drink" into the cactus plant, after Kuzco's neck transforms, the cactus turns into the shape of a llama. When Kronk is trying to hide in the background with Kuzco in the bag, when the scene pulls back, the painting is of two figures pointing at Kronk.

Like many other Disney films, this one contains a number of hidden Mickey Mouse images. One is in the bushes when Kuzco gets pulled from the water and another is Yzma's head and earrings (upside down).

To keep the animation team together as a crew during the production hiatus, former Disney animator Eric Goldberg was allowed to borrow the animation crew to help produce his independent film Rhapsody in Blue (2000), which Disney ended up inserting into Fantasia/2000 (1999) as one of the musical segments.

[Kronk's Shoulder Angel and Devil debate saving Kuzco]
Kronk's Shoulder Devil: Listen up, big guy. I got three good reasons why you should just walk away. Number one. Look at that guy! He's got that sissy stringy music thing.
Kronk's Shoulder Angel: We've been through this. It's a harp, and you know it.
Kronk's Shoulder Devil: Oh, right. That's a harp, and that's a dress.
Kronk's Shoulder Angel: Robe!
Kronk's Shoulder Devil: Reason number two. Look what I can do. Ha-ha, ha!
[does one-armed handstand]
Kronk: But what does that have to do with anything?
Kronk's Shoulder Angel: No, no. He's got a point.
Kronk: Listen, you guys. You're sort of confusing me, so, uh, begone... or, uh, y'know, however I get rid of you guys.
Kronk's Shoulder Devil, Kronk's Shoulder Angel: That'll work.

Enchanted (2007)

I'm a big fan of this movie as well. It's another one of those movies that incorporates both animation and real life action and it's done brilliantly. This movie shows the classic fairytale with a twist: being thrust into the real world, but not just any place, New York City. I really love the music in this movie; thank you, Alan Menken! Enchanted also features an amazing cast: Idina Menzel (Elphaba from the musical Wicked), Susan Sarandon, and newcomer Amy Adams. Not to mention cuties Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden! :)Enchanted is a wonderful movie and is great if you want a little pick-me-up.

Fun Facts: (There are tons of Disney references in this movie!)

The actresses who provided the voices for three previous animated Disney princesses make appearances in the film: Jodi Benson (‘Ariel’ in The Little Mermaid (1989)), Paige O'Hara (‘Belle’ in Beauty and the Beast (1991)), and Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas (1995)). Also, Julie Andrews, who starred as the title character in Disney's live-action Mary Poppins (1964), provides her voice here as the Narrator.

During the scene in which Robert and Giselle take the elevator to his upstairs apartment, there is a brief moment where the camera zooms in on the elevator floor display, which bares a startling resemblance to the elevator floor display at the Tower of Terror Attraction in the Disney Theme parks. It even goes from floors 1 through 12.

According to director Kevin Lima, "thousands" of references are made to past and future works of Disney in Enchanted, which serve as both a parody of and a "giant love letter to Disney classics". As Lima worked with Bill Kelly, the writer, to inject Disney references to the plot, it became "an obsession"; he derived the name of every character as well as anything that needed a name from past Disney films to bring in more Disney references.

(SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE!)At the beginning, Giselle is creating a mannequin of her 'true love'. The outfit it is wearing is never worn by the prince - but it is worn by Robert at the ball, near the end of the film. The dress Giselle is wearing during this scene is same color and design as the dress she wears at the ball.
